Junior Marauder Field Hockey

Field hockey is a competitive team sport that teaches cooperation, leadership, mental and physical fortitude, and requires practiced skill. The Belmont High School team has been a successful program for many years in town. However, there is currently no youth program that exists for field hockey that compares to those offered for other fall sports. Consequently, many kids play field hockey for the first time at their high school tryouts at which point they fear they are behind other athletes and are under-confident about their abilities.

Our mission: Junior Marauder Field Hockey seeks to provide opportunities for youth to gain confidence, exposure to the sport, and to develop skills at an earlier age just as other fall sports currently offer. We will begin the program this spring and hope continue over the summer and beyond!

Who: Kids ages 5-18

What: Each session, players will be divided into small groups. The groups will participate in stations that focus on the various skills of the game including stick handling; shooting; passing; and defensive stick skills. At the end of each session, the coaches will have the kids participate in games designed to reinforce the skills learned.

Equipment needed: Field hockey stick, eye googles, shin guards, cleats or sneakers
